Invisibility cloak ? Good but useless .

I had decided not to write anything light ,
but this light matter was so catchy that this could be perfect example of 'How People can hype useless things ... ' , (aka how politicians can promise the ideal world which could never exist ) how people are made to think ILLOGICAL …

We are taking the case of Media report of "Invisibility cloak in the making .."


If we got a invisibility cloak ..
First tell me how will I use it ? No matter with what principle that invisibility cloak is made up of it must not let even a single photon coming in my direction get reflected AND they should let the photon coming from my behind should be passed path unchanged . (I know front and back are relative, nevertheless I used it just for convenient way to explain . . Applicable from each direction.)

And now as anyone who has studied Biology knows that we see because photons make impression on some cones and rods in our eyes. And that is how we see the world. So effectively if a cube is transparent /invisible then it is not letting photon interact with its material . So a very plain conclusion we can derive is invisibility cloak has to be a pitch black blanket from inside . (As we are not letting any photon come inside ..). Now sole objective of yours is just to hide then fine . But now that could be done even by ‘a movable big Flower pot ( patented by Charlie chaplin ) or a cupboard , or even sack should do that .


So guys now is there any use of a blanket which effectively renders me blind ??

I do not think so .
I also do not think it is of any help to even voyeuristic people , leave alone any spy operations , and obviously to uncle Sammy ..

So guys conclusion is reality can be more different from Hype , and what mind is conditioned to believe need not be true at all . ( e.g. invisible cloak is fun … )

Well, you didn't consider the possibility of a producing and destroying photons! OK, this may not work from all directions -- or atleast needs more thought -- but imagine you have a bunch of cameras on your back and a huge autostereoscopic display on the front. The display shows an appropriate (directional) image based on what the cameras see so that anybody watching the displays sees what he/she should be seeing in case there was no occlusion...

I fyou think of this option then I will have to say the person sitting inside the cloak will not be able to see in the direction where we are projecting the image .
consider the situation as follows


< Girl> < image>{ u with Cloak }


In such situation you wont be able to see the girl though you may be invisible to her .
So sad . SO effectively ou are blind again . :-)

One could use the same principle as in a half-silvered mirror, i.e., light will sneak through half the area of the display -- very tiny light holes being sprinkled all over the display.
